Hellenic Innovation Network, with the support of the Greek Consulate of Boston and MIT Enterprise Forum Greece, hosts events to educate those in the US about technology innovation and entrepreneurship in Greece, and offer Greek entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch and network in the US. While our events are typically held in Boston, due to the covid-19 situation we are hosting a series of 30-minute webcasts, in order to keep our community connected until our next in-person event in the Fall. Introductory remarks by Gregory Dimitriadis, Secretary General for International Economic Affairs, Greek Foreign Ministry.

Speaker: Alex Stamos, Director, Stanford Internet Observatory, Former Chief Security Officer, Facebook and Yahoo

Alex Stamos is working to improve the security and safety of the Internet through teaching and research as the Director of the Stanford Internet Observatory. He has served as Chief Security Officer at Facebook and Yahoo and was a co-founder of iSEC Partners. Alex has investigated and responded to several historical events and has been called the “Forrest Gump of InfoSec” by friends.

He is working on election security as a member of the Annan Commission on Elections and Democracy and advising NATO’s Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. He has spoken on six continents, testified in Congress, served as an expert witness for the wrongly accused, earned a BSEE from UC Berkeley and holds five patents.

Moderated by: Michail Bletsas, Director of Computing / Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab

Michail Bletsas is a Research Scientist and the Director of Computing at MIT’s Media Lab. He was a member of the core technical and design team for the “One Laptop Per Child” initiative which created OLPC’s pioneering, award-winning “XO” laptop.

He has been involved with startups in many diverse capacities: cofounder, advisor, director, investor, consultant. Over the years, he has advised governments around technology policy issues and provided expert opinion in technical matters to top-level officials.

He has implemented broadband access networks using cutting-edge technologies including one of the earliest ADSL testbeds and various wireless technologies.  Mr. Bletsas has been a frequent keynote speaker in international conferences and has been engaged in many civic activities.
